Substance Use Psychiatrist
About Michael Garron Hospital department of Psychiatry and Substance Use: The goal of the Department of Psychiatry and the Mental Health Service is to provide mental health and substance use care to the children, youth and adults living in East Toronto. We are a community hospital, who strives to work with community partners to optimize patient outcomes while working to increase the capacity of community based clinicians and agencies, to treat psychiatric disorders.
The hospital has a significant change journey ahead to advance its mental health and substance use services, redefine its role in serving the broader East Toronto community, and better shape how it works in an integrated care delivery model with its community partners. The recent opening of the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre has introduced a new Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, additional inpatient adult Mental Health beds, a new Child and Youth Unit and Clinics, and enhanced Inpatient Models of Care. Within the community, the hospital recently launched a new Women’s Withdrawal Management Centre, serves as the coordinator for citywide Mobile Crisis Intervention Teams, and has partnered to launch a new Youth Wellness Hub in Thorncliffe Park. These are examples of the many exciting change initiatives within the Mental Health and Substance Use program at the hospital. Michael Garron Hospital is also a founding member of the East Toronto Health Partners, our Ontario Health Team, which has Adult Mental Health and Substance Use, and Youth Mental Health and Wellness, as two of three population health areas of focus.
Our Goals:
• improve access and optimize the quality of psychiatric care
• improve capacity of community providers to treat individuals in the community
• improve continuing education of our staff and community providers
• create new Outpatient programs to serve the different needs of the different services in the hospital and the community
• identify additional ways to obtain feedback and incorporate patient voice into planning
Position Description:
1.0 Full Time Equivalent / Full-time, permanent position.
Be a psychiatrist for our Assertive Community Treatment Team.
Provide regular consultations and short term care in the Substance Use Division (patients referred to our RAAM clinic, Addiction Medicine Service and Withdrawal Management Program.)
Provide regular consultations and short term care in the Outpatient Department (patients referred from the emergency department, inpatient units and local physicians.)
Opportunities to lead evidence based group therapies (DBT, CBT, IPT)
Full participation in the Departmental Call schedule
Other clinical opportunities as available, innovation and creative programs are encouraged
Participation in the growing academic mission which includes supervising medical learners and engaging in the development of the Scarborough Academy of Medicine.
Remuneration:
Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300 000 to $400 000 (based on fee for service) per annum and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, experience and hours worked. Remuneration includes a combination of OHIP billings, HOCC stipend for on-call participation, and a combination of sessions/ stipends. OHIP billings will be paid directly to the physician from the ministry of health.
There are no overhead expenses. There are no benefits associated with this position, but candidates are encouraged to connect with the Ontario Medical Association for to access their benefits program.
Qualifications:
Candidate must hold a Medical Degree or an equivalent degree.
Certification in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (or equivalent) and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry. A minimum of 5-10 years clinical experience. A proven track record in delivering excellence in inter-professional care. Eligible for academic appointment to the University of Toronto. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
