Sunshine Coast Health Centre and Georgia Strait Women’s Clinic are seeking a psychiatrist to join our established residential treatment programs for adults experiencing addiction, trauma, depression, and related mental health conditions. The majority of clients are working professionals and skilled trades suffering with AUD and other mild to moderate undiagnosed psychiatric conditions. This role offers an opportunity to practice meaningful psychiatry with excellent compensation, minimal administrative burden, and significant professional autonomy. This position replaces a long-standing psychiatrist who has worked with the organization since 2007. ⸻ Clinical Responsibilities The psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment and medication management for residential clients. Typical workload includes: • 6-10 new psychiatric assessments per week Approximately half of clients require only an initial assessment, while the remainder receive occasional short follow-up appointments. The clinic is responsible for gathering medical records prior to admission. The psychiatrist is able to direct or cancel discharges they believe are in the best interests of the patient. Psychiatrists maintain full clinical control over which clients are scheduled for follow-up visits. The program does not schedule routine psychiatric visits unless requested by the psychiatrist. ⸻ Work Structure • Approximately 24 hours per week ⸻ Administrative & Clinical Support Psychiatrists benefit from extensive support that minimizes administrative burden. Annual earning potential $450,000 – $550,000 plus. Physician bills facility for each client they work with. Monthly billing to the clinic is done by invoice. Average monthly billing to clinic is typically $25,000 – $30,000. Billing to MSP covers all in person visits and remains the responsibility of physician. Physician does not share this information with the facility but it’s based on seeing 310-350 clients in a calendar year. Average length of stay is 5 weeks.

The program is: • Licensed by the BC Ministry of Health under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act • Accredited with Accreditation Canada (Exemplary Standing) The organization employs over 115 staff and maintains a highly supportive multidisciplinary treatment environment that prioritizes work/life balance and low turnover. The current psychiatrist has worked with the organization since 2007 and will remain available as a locum during the transition. He is available to answer the questions of any serious applicants. |
