The University of Manitoba, Department of Surgery, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for a full-time academic Minimally Invasive Surgeon to join a successful academic group within the Section of General Surgery at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This position will commence on a date mutually agreed upon.

This is a geographical full-time, contingent position and the successful candidate will be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will integrate into a successful academic general surgery group with strong commitments to clinical excellence, research, education and academic administration. The clinical focus will be broad based and may include laparoscopic foregut surgery, such as hiatal surgery, solid organ surgery (eg adrenal and spleen) and abdominal wall reconstruction. The candidate must be eager to work in a collaborative and supportive environment, demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching learners of all levels. The General Surgery program has a well-established reputation of excellence in surgical education, and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this tradition.

This position will be based primarily out of St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. This is one of the main tertiary care hospitals for Manitoba, Northwest Ontario and portions of Nunavut, with a catchment of 1.5 million people.

The successful candidate should be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.

An inclusive, open and diverse community is essential to excellence and fosters voices that have been ignored or discouraged. To address the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and in recognition of the underrepresentation of members of historically and currently excluded groups, we take proactive measure including implicit bias training for all hiring panels. We strive for diversity and cultural safety throughout the hiring process (hiring panels, short-list of candidates, interviews). We encourage you to self-identify any aspect of diversity in your cover letter.

The University of Manitoba and Shared Health are committed to the principles of equity, diversity & inclusion and to promoting opportunities in hiring, promotion and tenure (where applicable) for systemically marginalized groups who have been excluded from full participation at the University and the larger community including Indigenous Peoples, women, racialized persons, persons with disabilities and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse sexual identities). All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
