The Concordia Joint Replacement Group (CJRG) at Concordia Hospital, the Concordia Hip and Knee Institute, the University of Manitoba Department of Surgery, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health Manitoba is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time hip and knee adult reconstructions arthroplasty surgeon to assist in the expansion of the academic clinical and research program in arthroplasty in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The proposed starting date would be July 1, 2026, but is potentially negotiable. Renumeration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Successful applicants should be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and must have completed at least one year of fellowship training in hip and knee arthroplasty. They must also be comfortable with community-level musculoskeletal trauma management.

The successful candidate will join an established and cohesive group of four other subspecialty-trained academic hip and knee arthroplasty surgeons. They will be expected to participate in an approximate 1-in-12 general orthopaedic call schedule as well as a 1-in-7 hip and knee arthroplasty-specific call schedule. Elective clinic and operating time will be provided. The position encompasses inpatient and ambulatory patient care responsibilities and requires individuals with clinal and teaching skills to further the aims of the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and tertiary care medicine. Teaching of medical students, orthopaedic residents and arthroplasty fellows affiliated with the University of Manitoba will form part of normal daily activities. As an academic group, the successful candidate will be expected to both participate in and lead specific research activities. To this end, candidates with an advanced degree supporting research and/or education will be given preference.

This is a geographical full-time, contingent position and the successful candidate will be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba.

The CJRG is a high-volume arthroplasty group targeted to perform 3000 joint replacements annually. The majority of the hip and knee revision cases for the province of Manitoba and adjacent regions (approximately 1.6 million people) are performed by the group. In partnership with the Orthopaedic Innovation Centre, the team annual research budget ranges from $400,000-$700,000 per year with a mixture of industry, academic and government grants in addition to contract research. The research team includes clinical study coordinators, mechanical and bio-medical engineers. The team cohesiveness has been key to the success of the CJRG, and, therefore, the successful candidate must have a team-oriented approach to clinical and academic work and appropriate supportive skills to achieve these goals.
