Shared Health (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB, R3C 5R9), Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA), The University of Manitoba, and Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Cardiology (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for an Interventional Cardiologist. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, which job duties encompass 85% of the position.

The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher) and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 15% of the position. Job duties are required in English.

This is an academic position with substantial cardiac resources within the region, primarily at two academic health centres (St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre). At St. Boniface Hospital, there are a total of 3 Interventional Cardiology (IC) laboratories that provide cardiac care for over 1.5 million individuals in Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario. A total of 6500 cardiac catheterizations are performed annually, of which 3000 involve percutaneous coronary interventions. In addition to 50 chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures that are performed annually, our structural heart disease (SHD) program is nationally renowned for over 200 transcatheter aortic valve implantations annually. As per the Canadian Institutes for Health Information (CIHI), the IC program continues to rank in the top 3 labs across Canada for the lowest 30 day mortality and complication rate for the previous 5 years. Additionally, the University of Manitoba has a RCPSC AFC Interventional Cardiology training program which has graduated up to 10 trainees (PGY-7/8) who have secured academic positions across Canada and the UK.

There are presently 32 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, palliative care, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Adult Cardiology. Certification in Adult Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred. The successful applicant will have academic potential, including demonstration of effective interdisciplinary communication, a record of prior training in Interventional Cardiology, as well as competency in general cardiology. They must also have clinical and teaching skills to further the aims of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Adult Cardiology.

Compensation:
Compensation is derived from a blend of fee-for-service income, plus additional stipends.
