Health PEI offers multiple payment modality options:

Contract for Service — Physicians are compensated on an hourly basis, as per the Physician Services Agreement. Contract for Service physicians have access to benefits through the Physician Services Agreement (i.e. parental leave), but do not have paid benefits such as vacation, health and dental, or RRSP matching. The hourly rate increase includes an amount for “in lieu of benefits” to compensate for those benefits. As income earned on a contract basis may be claimed through a professional corporation, this modality may provide tax advantages.
Salary — Salaried physicians enter an employee/employer relationship with Health PEI. In this model, Health PEI hires a physician under a contract of employment which assigns the hours worked, duties, and responsibilities. As an employee you have access to a suite of benefits, including health and dental, paid vacation and sick days, life insurance, RRSP matching, and more.




Information related to payment modalities, including contract for service, fee-for-service tariff of fees, including other remuneration information can be found in the Physician Services Agreement.

Facility-based inpatient oncology care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on weekends and holidays as part of physician shared call schedule. This is considered outside regular salaried or contract-for-service hours and is paid for on a fee-for-service basis. 

 

 

 

 

 

FRCPC or eligibility for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification
Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island.
Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
Eligible for appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff with appropriate privileging.
Work experience preferable with at least 1- 2 years of clinical experience working in Canada.
Ability to drive and travel the island to various locations.

Atlantic Registry

Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry. Health Care Workers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination as per Health PEI’s Covid-19 Immunization and Management Policy. If a new hire is unable to be vaccinated as a result of a medical exemption, they will be required to submit supporting documentation to Employee Health / Wellness and Safety.

In the event of a discrepancy in information on this website and the Master Agreement, the Master Agreement shall prevail.
