Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Maternal-Fetal Medicine – Sinai Health System

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine, along with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sinai Health, are seeking a full-time physician with subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) with a focus in Fetal Medicine and Fetal Therapy. The successful candidate will be resourced to hold an academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the minimum rank of assistant professor at the University of Toronto. Applications from individuals at the higher ranks of associate professor or professor are welcome. The anticipated start date in early summer 2025, at a mutually agreeable date.

Sinai Health is a leader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Neonatology, with one of the largest programs and services in Canada. It is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and is associated with the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, an institute of international recognition in which research in women’s and infants’ health forms a major component. The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Sinai Health provides care for the full range of Medical Disorders of Pregnancy, including obesity medicine, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, rheumatology, cardiology, and hematology. Other areas of note include our programs in Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy, Prenatal Diagnosis, Placental Disorders, Complex Obstetric Surgery, and the Prevention of Prematurity. The Division services a metropolitan population of more than 6.5 million people. The Division actively collaborates with pediatric subspecialists at The Hospital for Sick Children via the newly established Ontario Fetal Centre. The Division has formal affiliations providing MFM services at Trillium Health Partners and Scarborough Health Network.

The successful candidate will pursue clinical and scholarly excellence in Fetal Medicine with a particular focus and experience in fetal neuroimaging, fetal neurological diagnoses and fetal therapy.

The candidate will provide a consultation and ongoing care practice focused on obstetrical care and management of all fetal diagnoses but with a particular focus on fetal neurologic diagnoses and fetal therapy within the Fetal Medicine Unit/Ontario Fetal Centre. The candidate will be skilled and capable in the full spectrum of fetal diagnostic, therapeutic procedures and fetal surgery. The candidate will provide Labor and Delivery coverage in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Obstetrical Ultrasound reporting within the Joint Division of Medical Imaging.

The Division seeks to appoint an individual with established and proven investigative skills as this position requires engagement in research related to fetal neurological diagnoses and/or fetal therapy. The desirable qualities of the successful candidate include an appropriate graduate degree (MSc or PhD), a strong and focused publication track record, active research portfolio in the area of fetal medicine/fetal therapy and a history of successful grant/research award procurement. The successful candidate will be provided with two or more protected academic days to facilitate this work. The successful candidate will dedicate ~40-50% of their time to their scholarly activity to be supported by a salary stipend.

Enthusiastic participation in all levels of our teaching and education mandate is expected and there will be teaching duties for learners in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education. The successful candidate will promote and demonstrate excellence in professional practices and conduct.

Required credentials for the clinical component of this position include completion an accredited Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship and additional fellowship training in both Fetal Therapy and Maternal-Fetal Hematology. Candidates must either be licensed or be eligible for an independent or restricted academic license, under the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Qualified applicants must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of MFM by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in MFM, in addition to the MD degree. The candidate must be able to speak proficiently in the English language

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be placed in the Hospital Department Practice Plan with an estimated remuneration of approximately $300,000 (based on fee-for-service billings and other sources of income).
