The Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority welcomes applications for an Academic Family Physician. This position will be based in the Department of Family Medicine’s Northern and Remote residency training stream, and will be located at Northern Connection Medical Centre (NCMC) within Seven Oaks General Hospital and NCMC’s satellite operation at 425 Elgin Ave. The teaching clinic operates under the umbrella of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. NCMC’s patient population mandate includes any First Nations, Metis, or Inuit individual that is temporarily in Winnipeg and in need of primary care services. Its diverse patient population also includes urban First Nations, Metis and Inuit people, immigrants and newcomers to Winnipeg, persons with disabilities and LGBTQIA2S+. This position offers the opportunity to work with a team dedicated to fulfilling the health care recommendations forwarded by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The vision of the team was gifted from an elder: Ni waa pa maa ka maan da wi zit wi chi koing chi mino ayain. This is an Anishinaabemowin phrase that roughly translates to “I see a vision of traditional healers healing our people.” At Northern Connections we strive to promote a Two-eyed seeing model of health care that embodies Trauma Informed Care and Harm Reduction principles. We value the knowledge and lived experience of our patient community. The successful applicant will also teach and supervise Family Medicine residents and other health care learners further supporting health equity and reconciliation. The successful candidate will also be given the opportunity to transition to a GFT role based on their performance during the initial trial period. This would include opportunity to engage in scholarly activity and administrative work as negotiated. The time commitment is between 0.5 to 1.0 EFT, or as mutually agreed upon. Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Preference will be given to candidates who are First Nations, Metis or Inuit, have northern and/or remote experience and hold or are eligible for certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Compensation: Compensation as per Doctors Manitoba agreement.
