Horizon Health Network is currently seeking Certified Geriatric Specialists to join the Division of Geriatric Medicine in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

As a Certified Geriatric Specialist, the physician shall establish a full-time practice providing both inpatient and outpatient services (with the opportunity to participate in the after hours on-call rotation of the Department of Internal Medicine).

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients through the Woodbridge Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
• Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending physician at the DECRH and the OPH.
• Provide consultations to nursing home residents at the request of the primary care provider.
• Provide consultation at home, if necessary, at the request of the family physician.
• Teaching responsibilities for resident physicians and medical students.
• Attend weekly interdisciplinary rehabilitation team meetings.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
• Provide input and direction for the Healthy Aging and Rehabilitation Program development.
• Participate in the Healthy Aging and Rehabilitation Program committees.
• Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
• Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
• Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values, and strategic directions.
• Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Head of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, the Chief of Staff and/or Seniors Vice President of Medical, Academic & Research Affairs.
Note: These responsibilities are the basic and prime duties associated with this position; other related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may be necessary to the operation of Horizon Health Network.

Other Requirements:
• Maintain CME/CPD requirements per specialty college.
• Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences
• Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, the Medical Services Payment Act, the Medical Pay Plan, and their regulations.
• Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
• Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association.

Every Physician licensed in the Province of New Brunswick must be a member of the New Brunswick Medical Society. With that membership, comes many benefits, including but are not limited to:
• Supplementary funding for continuing medical education of up to $4300.00/year.
• Parental leave support for fee-for-service physicians. NBMS has one of the best Parental Leave programs in Canada. The program pays eligible physicians $2000.00/month to a maximum of 26 consecutive weeks. Eligible physicians can continue to bill up to $1200/week of fee for service billings while in the program.
• Partial reimbursement for medical liability protection cost.

Qualification Requirements
Education
• Certified Specialist in Geriatric Medicine (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent) 
Experience
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
• Good attendance and work record.
• Physically able to perform assigned duties.
 
Certifications
• Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
• Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
• Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association
