Women’s College Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry and the University of Toronto’s Department of Psychiatry are seeking a psychiatrist to join our Reproductive Life Stages (RLS) Program. The RLS program focuses on mental health problems related to the reproductive life stages (menstrual cycle, perinatal period and the menopausal transition), and strives to employ a trauma-informed lens to all services, and to provide an inclusive environment and equitable services to people in all their diversity) at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or full Professor. Situated in an academic hospital, RLS is committed to clinical innovation, education and research aligned with WCH’s strategic goals related to advancements in sex and gender in health, health equity, and health care innovation. The RLS team consists of an intake worker, mental health therapists, and psychiatrists, and embedded within it are 2 child psychiatrists and a parenting support worker. The RLS program also has partnerships with external programs, including provision of psychiatrist oversight for a collaborative mental care program focused on parents and caregivers of children with medical complexity who are patients in the Complex Care Program at the University of Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (HSC).

This posting is for a part-time academic position that includes the mental health parent and caregiver program, as well as added time in clinical practice in the RLS program. The parent and caregiver program role will involve direct care at WCH for the parents and caregivers of children who are patients in the Complex Care Program at HSC, and indirect care including cases conferences, supporting HSC social workers providing therapeutic support to the caregivers, and providing support and direct to caregivers’ primary care providers. This role will include interactions and support from both the RLS team at WCH and the medical team in the Complex Care Program at HSC. There are ample opportunities to be involved in program development, research and other scholarly activities and the successful candidate will be supported to develop an academic focus specific to their interest/expertise. Based on the expertise, interest and other commitments of the applicant, there is also the potential option of a full-time academic position with the added time in clinical practice in the RLS program itself, education, research and/or quality and innovation. Effective start date is April 1, 2025 or shortly thereafter.

Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Psychiatry, must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario and be eligible for or holding an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or above in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and must hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent. All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English. Applicants should have at least 5 years experience in parent and/or caregiver mental health, and/or 2 years of experience combined with advanced clinical training (e.g., fellowship, advanced psychotherapy qualifications).

Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation will be based on a fee-for-service structure with additional funding available through the Women’s College Hospital Department of Psychiatry and other sources.
