The Clinical Assistant will work in coordination with the Hospitalist Program, Department of Family Medicine to provide inpatient clinical services under the direct supervision of a regularly licensed physician within a Regional Health Authority. Work is performed within the confines of the scope of practice and can be performed in a variety of settings. Other work may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by their Clinical Supervisor, the Local Chief of Staff, or applicable Medical Director.

Reporting Relationship
· Medical Director – Fredericton or designate for administrative and contractual matters.
· Local Chief of Staff or designate for clinical and quality of care issues.
· Department Head of Family Medicine.
· Head of the Hospitalist Program as Clinical Supervisor

JOB DUTIES:
• Provide and assist with comprehensive medical care of hospitalized patients admitted to the Hospitalist Program, in conjunction, and at the discretion of, the attending physician.
• Optimize admission orders, treatment and investigative modalities and timely discharge planning.
• Optimize efficient utilization of health care resources.
• Organize daily rounds in order to optimize care of acutely ill patients and timely discharges.
· Participate in an on-call rotation during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings that provides care for admitted inpatients (“first call” for inpatient units).
· Participate in the evaluation, and treatment, of admitted patients in conjunction with, and at the discretion of, the consulting/attending physician.
· Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
· Provide treatment of patients in conjunction with, and at the discretion of, the consulting/attending physician.
· Negotiate planned absences in advance to ensure coverage of service is maintained.
· Participate in a medical practice that is compatible with Horizon Health Networks mission, values, and strategic direction, and within the confines of the rules and bylaws of the Department of Family Medicine and DECH medical staff.
· Within the confines of the scope of practice and position description provided, other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by their Clinical Supervisor, the Head of Hospitalist Program, the Chief of the Department of Family Medicine, the Local Chief of Staff, or local Medical Director.

Certifications
· Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
· Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Medical Society.
· Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.
· Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training or must be completed within 3 months of hiring.
