As a Senior Medical Advisor, Continuing Competence, you will add to the capacity and expertise in the area of physician performance by acting as case-lead in the assessment, remediation, management and follow-up of regulated members who could benefit from further performance enhancement through the Continuing Competence programs.

The following opportunity is a permanent role at CPSA with a flexible Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) from 0.5 FTE (20 hours/week) to 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week), Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support assessment and remediation activities across Continuing Competence programs.
  • Review data sources, Standards of Practice (SOPs), and remediation supports to make practice improvement recommendations.
  • Lead quality improvement and assurance interventions for regulated members; provide coaching and facilitation.
  • Participate in development of assessment tools, feedback reporting, and quality improvement processes for the benefit of regulated members.
  • Collaborate with Continuing Competence team for member referrals, follow-up actions, file closure, and other matters.
  • Provide support to Program Managers in recruitment and training of practice visitors, facilitators, and mentors; ensure suitable qualifications and clarity of role.
  • Support CPSA’s Customer Experience (CX) team to answer queries from regulated and public members.
  • Participate in development of CPSA documents including Standards of Practice.
  • Liaise with other provincial and national Colleges and Faculties of Medicine on assessments, performance standards, prescribing practices for national standards and best practices.
  • Present to regulated members, faculty members, undergraduate and post-graduate medical learners on various topics.
  • Provide education, support and counsel for regulated members completing assessments.
  • Engage external stakeholders to develop local competency enhancement programs for regulated member referral.
  • Lead various research studies to create/confirm evidence of best practices and positive impact towards practice improvement.

Remuneration
The salary for this position is dependent on FTE status ranging from $127,316 (0.50 FTE) to $254,632 (1.0 FTE).

Additional Benefits
Includes a comprehensive benefit package and pension plan for a 0.7 FTE (28 hours/week) and higher. 
Qualification Requirements
Education
* MD, Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) or equivalent, and/or Royal College.

* Eligible for licensure in Alberta. 
Experience
* 10+ years of clinical medical practice.

* Broad medical knowledge and experience in a variety of healthcare settings.

* Experience in medical education and/or quality improvement and patient safety is required.

* Previous experience in assessment and remedial programs is preferred.

*A working knowledge of the Health Professions Act (HPA), Regulations, Rules and Standards of Practice is an asset.
