Health PEI is seeking a locum Physiatrist ASAP for a minimum of three (3) months with the possibility of extension based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). The locum will have an opportunity to: practice electrodiagnosis in the QEH EMG Lab in collaboration with our Neurological colleagues; perform inpatient and outpatient consultations and directive care; musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment; and participate in interdisciplinary rehabilitation clinics with our ambulatory teams. The Department has a well equipped rehabilitation clinic including the equipment for ultrasound and needle EMG guided diagnostic and interventional procedures. Prince Edward Island remains one of the most enjoyed gems of Eastern Canada, that includes a unique mix of urban and rural experiences. We are surrounded by the Atlantic ocean with outstanding beaches, boating opportunities, and a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Full-time: 37.5 hrs/week.
Currently our allocation is 2 Physiatrists and therefore on call is not required. Physicians have the option of choosing a fee for service or contract for services remuneration. Information related to payment modalities can be found in the Master Agreement between the Medical Society of PEI, the Government of PEI, and Health PEI. Refer to the Physiatry Earning Potential Guide to understand the various payment options and potential compensation. Application fees with the Medical Society of PEI and some application fees with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI will be covered.
Cost of return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000. If travelling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board rates and bridge and road tolls reimbursed with submission of receipts. Reimbursement for travel by car is not to exceed the cost of economy airfare. Reimbursement for travel over $2,000 will be considered with prior approval from the Locum Program Coordinator where no other options exist. Option A: $200/day with no receipts; or Option B: Reimbursement for car rental up to $1,400 weekly and/or accommodations up to $300 nightly, with receipts and daily stipend of $50 (no receipts required) to cover incidentals. Car rental and accommodations exceeding the rates indicated above require advance approval by the Locum Program Coordinator. Non-working days: For Options A & B, locums will be reimbursed as per their selected option, where this cost is less than the return travel home on off days. Reimbursement for non-working days will be considered with prior approval from the Locum Program Coordinator. Hospital-based electronic health record system with access to lab and x-ray reports from office may be available. |
Qualification Requirements

Education |
FRCPC or eligibility for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification;
Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island; and Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging. Atlantic Registry Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry. Health Care Workers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination as per Health PEI’s Covid-19 Immunization and Management Policy.
