Health PEI is seeking Family Medicine Physicians who will provide services which may include shifts in a Rural Hospital Emergency Department, inpatient rounds and on-call coverage and work in community-based clinics. This position will provide coverage in one of the two rural counties in the province. Prince County Health PEI is a crown corporation responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island. Health PEI’s Head Office is located in Charlottetown, PEI. Office hours can be full or part-time, Monday-Friday up to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week.
Evening clinic hours may be available depending upon health system need. Emergency Department shifts, In-patient coverage and unaffiliated patient clinics will fluctuate and will be mutually agreed upon between the Rural Acute Care Physician and Medical Director. The Physician will have a choice of pay modality for Primary Care work: salary, contract-for-services or fee for service. Salary Pay Model Hourly Rate: Hourly rate + 31% of approved shadow billings. Hours per week: 37.5 hours/week, 1950 hours/year. *prorated for part-time. Vacation: 4-6 weeks/year depending on experience. *prorated for part-time. Sick: 11.25 hours/month for each continuous month of service. CME: Up to 75 hours per year and $5000 per year (for 0.6FTE or higher). Pension: Yes. Group Insurance Benefits: Yes. Charts and support staff: Responsibility of Health PEI. Staff may be Health PEI or hired by landlord. Contract for Services Hourly Rate: Hourly rate + 31% of approved shadow billings. Hours per week: 1725 per year – can be divided by physicians as they like. Vacation: Unpaid – Physician directed. Sick: Unpaid – Physician directed. CME: Funding available through MSPEI. Pension: Not applicable. Group Insurance Benefits: Not applicable. Charts and support staff: Responsibility of Health PEI. Staff may be Health PEI or hired by landlord. Qualification Requirements

Education |
Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island;
Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada; Hold MCCQE Part I or Licentiate of Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) equivalent; Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA); Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging; Work experience preferable with at least 1- 2 years of clinical experience working in Canada. Atlantic Registry Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry.
