Family Medicine Physician – Addictions: Provincial Addictions Treatment Centre The Family Medicine Physician – Addictions is responsible for providing daily coverage to the inpatient withdrawal manage unit at the Provincial Addictions Treatment Facility and may provide outpatient withdrawal management services and participate in multi-disciplinary rounds. The physician will provide both hospital and community-based services as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Full or part-time, regular office hours Monday-Friday up to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week.
Evening clinic hours may be available depending upon health system need. |
Billing / Overhead Split |
The Addictions Family Physician will have a choice of pay modality for Addictions work: salary, contract-for-services or fee for service.
Providing addiction treatment facility based inpatient care on weekends and holidays as part of physician call schedule. This is considered outside regular salaried or contract-for-service hours and is paid on a fee-for-service basis. Salary Pay Model Hourly Rate: Hourly rate + 31% of approved shadow billings. Hours per week: 37.5 hours/week, 1950 hours/year. *prorated for part-time. Vacation: 4-6 weeks/year depending on experience. *prorated for part-time. Sick: 11.25 hours/month for each continuous month of service. CME: Up to 75 hours per year and $5000 per year (for 0.6FTE or higher). RRSP Contributions: Yes. Group Insurance Benefits: Yes. Charts and support staff: Responsibility of Health PEI. Staff may be Health PEI or hired by landlord. Contract for Services Hourly Rate: Hourly rate + 31% of approved shadow billings. Hours per week: 1725 per year – can be divided by physicians as they like. Vacation: Unpaid – Physician directed. Sick: Unpaid – Physician directed. CME: Funding available through MSPEI. RRSP Contributions: Not applicable. Group Insurance Benefits: Not applicable. Charts and support staff: Responsibility of Health PEI. Staff may be Health PEI or hired by landlord. Qualification Requirements

Education |
Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island;
Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada; Hold MCCQE Part I or Licentiate of Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) equivalent; Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA); Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging; Additional training and experience in addiction treatment, both inpatient and community based settings; Work experience preferable with at least 1- 2 years of clinical experience working in Canada. Atlantic Registry Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry.
