The Department of Pathology at Health PEI has locum opportunities to provide support to our laboratory team of six Pathologists, one Hematopathologist, two Clinical Chemists, and one Medical Microbiologist. NOTE: This locum opportunity will remain open for an indefinite period. Working in PEI is a unique and rewarding setting since it provides a small town feel with a variety of specimens but the opportunity to work at a provincial level. Pathologists rotate (one week in six) at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, PE, which is a 45-minute drive from Charlottetown. The candidate must have the ability to sign out surgical and cytology specimens. Additional assets include sign out of hematopathology specimens, performing autopsies, and managing transfusion medicine, chemistry and microbiology issues while on-call. The ideal candidate would also have strong skills in clinical laboratory diagnostics. Fellowship training in transfusion medicine, cytology or surgical pathology would also be an asset. The position requires strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact well with laboratory and administrative staff, and clinicians. The successful applicant must be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice in Prince Edward Island and be a fellow or eligible for fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is also mandatory. |
