The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA)(650 Main Street, Winnipeg MB) and The University of Manitoba, Department of Surgery (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for a full-time academic orthopaedic sports surgeon to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba. Main job duties include diagnose, treat, rehabilitation and prevention of diseases of the bones, joints, ligament, muscles, tendons and nerves employing medical, physical and surgery which job duties encompass 75% of the position

The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 25% of the position. Job duties are required in English.

The successful candidate will join an established and cohesive group of 9 subspecialty-trained academic sports, upper extremity and lower extremity surgeons. They will be expected to participate in an approximate 1-in-13 general orthopaedic trauma call schedule and additional 1-in-7 Pan Am Clinic minor injury call. Elective clinic and operating time will be provided. Teaching of medical students, orthopaedic residents and sports fellows affiliated with the University of Manitoba will form part of normal daily activities. As an academic group, the successful candidate will be expected to both participate in and eventually lead specific research activities. To this end, candidates with an advanced degree supporting research and/or education will be given preference.
The Pan Am Orthopaedic group is a high-volume subspecialty group performing over 4400 surgeries annually. The majority of complex sports injuries, upper extremity, lower extremity and foot and ankle reconstruction cases for the province of Manitoba and adjacent regions (approximately 1.6 million people) are performed by the group. In partnership with the Pan Am Foundation, the annual research budget is $1,000,000 per year with a mixture of industry, academic and government grants in addition to contract research. The research team includes clinical study coordinators, research assistants and PhDs.

Team cohesiveness has been key to the success of the Pan Am Orthopaedic group, and therefore the successful candidate must have a team-oriented approach to clinical and academic work and appropriate supportive skills to achieve these goals.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Orthopedics. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Candidates must have completed at least one year of fellowship training in hip arthroscopy and minimally invasive soft tissue surgery around the hip. They must also be comfortable with community-level musculoskeletal trauma management.

Compensation:

Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income ($326,400.00+). Specialty Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive. Please contact physicianrecruitment@sharedhealthmb.ca for further information.
