The Department of Critical Care Medicine, Division of Cardiac Critical Care at the Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Head of the Division. The effective date of this appointment is March 1, 2023 (negotiable).

Primary Description
The candidate must hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent, must be able to function proficiently in English and must have training and extensive clinical experience in paediatric cardiac critical care. A track record of successful leadership is required. Responsibilities include leading the Division faculty by setting a strong vision for the future and providing support to faculty that enhances their career development. This position also involves being the medical director of a 20 bed cardiac critical care unit that is a fully integrated part of the Labatt Family Heart Centre. As such, a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other Heart Centre physician teams (Cardiology, Cardiovascluar Surgery, Cardiac Anesthesia) as well as with nursing, respiratory therapy and other interprofessional teams and team members is essential. The successful candidate will be a member of the Labatt Family Heart Centre Executive Committee as well as all Deparment of Critical Care Medicine leadership committees. The position includes an expectation for full-time equivalent clinical intensive care practice, and an active academic career. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research or other scholarly work is required.

Additional Description
The successful candidate must be committed to a career as an academic clinician. The candidate must be eligible for academic appointment at the University of Toronto. The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Medical staff appointments in the Department and at The Hospital for Sick Children are aligned with faculty classifications at the University of Toronto and as specified by the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN).

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, The Hospital for Sick Children is a world-renowned, state-of-the-art paediatric health care facility affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital is committed to ongoing learning and development and features a caring and supportive work environment. The Division of Cardiac Critical Care currently comprises 9 Physicians and is responsible for the comprehensive care for all patients admitted to the Cardiac Critcial Care Unit, including mechanical support of the circulation. Clinical responsibilities may also include participation in other collaborative teams within the Labatt Family Heart Centre depending on interests, experience and qualifications.

Remuneration will be base compensation of $380,000 per year and a leadership stipend of $50,000 per year. Periodic billing overage distributions may be received over and above base salary.
