The Department of Surgery at Prairie Mountain Health is seeking an Orthopedic Surgeon with training and expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty.

The successful candidate will be a General Orthopedic Surgeon with clinical expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty. Additional experience, such as hand and wrist, sports or peds is desirable. Fellowships are preferred, however, with required documentation, other training and experience will be considered.

The candidate must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment with excellent interpersonal skills. They will be a full-time member of the department of Orthopedic Surgery and will participate in the Trauma on-call rotation at the Brandon Regional Health Centre which is typically 1/5.

Brandon Regional Health Centre is a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and offers the opportunity for you to contribute to the teaching/mentoring of medical learners if desired. Brandon has many opportunities to join existing medical clinics within the city of Brandon.

As the second largest city in Manitoba, Brandon is the main Hub and referral site for South Western Manitoba. Brandon Regional Health Centre is a fully accredited facility with 300+ bed capacity with 56 surgical beds, 6 operating theatres, 3 dedicated endoscopy rooms and 1 minor surgery procedure room We have on-site radiologists who provide ultrasound, CT, MRI services, as well as on-site lab and nuclear medicine services.
With a population of just over 51,000, and a catchment population of over 180,000, Brandon is a thriving rural community with lifestyle opportunities for all ages. Located a short drive of 200 kms west from Winnipeg on the TransCanada highway (which takes approximately 2 hours), Brandon is large enough to supply all the retail, medical, educational, and cultural needs on a daily basis and small enough to avoid high costs of living and long commutes to work.

Brandon University has a significant reputation in music, general arts, and science programs. Assiniboine Community College provides a wide range of education options (which includes the Institute of Culinary Arts), and we also have Robertson College and the Manitoba Emergency Services College.

Cottage country/camping recreation is second to none with Riding Mountain National Park one hour North, the International Peace Gardens situated on the Manitoba/North Dakota border just over an hour to the south and Spruce Woods provincial park 30 minutes to the East. Brandon’s enthusiastic volunteer base lands many provincial, national and international events. With a population increase of 5%, it is a vibrant community in which to live, work and play.

Qualifications:

Must hold an MD degree or equivalent from an accredited medical school Completed postgraduate fellowship qualifications prior to appointment Current or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba Have or hold eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Must be a member of CMPA or provide proof of equivalent malpractice insurance

Compensation:

Compensation for this position shall be derived from fee for service in accordance with the Doctors Manitoba and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living negotiated rates.
