Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon The Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is inviting applications for a full time academic Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in lower extremity reconstruction. The effective date of this appointment is as soon as possible. Primary Description – The candidate must hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent, must be able to function proficiently in English. Responsibilities include clinical, scholarly, and administrative duties, as required. The clinical component of the position will include a substantial commitment to the care of children with lower extremity deformities. An appropriate candidate may choose to focus on a particular child population, including but not limited to children with arthrogryposis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or similar conditions requiring complex orthopaedic care in children with concomitant diagnoses. Demonstration of breadth, depth, and innovation in clinical and operative practice will be a significant asset. Other clinical duties include participation in the emergency Orthopaedic call schedule at SickKids. The candidate should have a strong academic background and is expected to complement the division’s scholarly productivity. A scholarly focus on research, education, or global health is welcomed. Clinical and scholarly time allocation will be negotiated based upon the candidate’s qualifications, scholarly productivity, and academic plan. Demonstrated academic excellence in basic or clinical research, surgical education, quality and safety, or other academic pursuits is required. Candidates must also be eligible for an appointment as a Surgeon-Scientist, Surgeon-Investigator, Surgeon-Teacher, or other academic stream at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Additional Description Hospital/Division Description The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery is comprised of eight full-time and two part-time academic surgeons, five paediatric orthopaedic fellows, as well as orthopaedic residents on rotation. We are well supported by advance practice physiotherapists, nurse practitioners, orthopaedic technologists, and administrative staff. SickKids is located adjacent to the University of Toronto campus and to numerous specialty hospitals and biomedical research institutes. It is an exciting time at SickKids as we execute our campus redevelopment project, including a new state-of-the-art acute care hospital tower. Toronto is a vibrant multicultural city with consistent population and economic growth. It is currently the fourth largest city in North America and boasts a safe, livable, downtown area with excellent housing, school, and university access. World famous lake and wilderness country and year-round outdoor recreation are easily accessible, as are two hub airports for regional or international travel. Commensurate with qualifications and experience, remuneration will be in the range of $400,000 – $500,000 CAD per year, for 40 hours work per week plus on call responsibilities, to which will be added an equal distribution of billing overages.
