Effective January 1, 2023, The Division of Neonatology, Department of Paediatrics at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) 555 University Ave., Toronto, ON which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children; a fully affiliated hospital with the University of Toronto is seeking a Developmental Paediatrician for a part-time (0.50 FTE – 2-year contract) position in the Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up Program.

SickKids is world-renowned paediatric teaching and research hospital that resides in Toronto, Ontario with a geographical area that serves over 6 million people. The quaternary level NICU has 44 beds with approximately 900 admissions per year and is the regional, national, and international neonatal referral centre for newborns with complex illnesses, surgical diagnosis, and neonatal brain injury. It has the highest volume of patients receiving therapeutic hypothermia for HIE in North America at a single centre.

The Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Follow-Up Program follows high risk infants from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Critical Care Unit until 3 years of age. With approximately 1500 visits per year, assessments are performed by a highly skilled team integrating clinical examination, general movements assessment, HINE, and other standardized assessments in addition to neuroimaging. The Follow-Up Program is actively engaged in several CIHR, and NIH funded research studies. It has established an international Learning Hub on AboutKidsHealth, (https://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/nnfu ) for families and care providers. Clinic visits and parent workshops are also offered through the NNFU’s virtual care platform.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in Paediatrics with expertise in neurodevelopmental disorders and early childhood development. Proficiency in clinical evaluation of autism spectrum disorder using standardized assessments is highly desirable. This individual must be committed to provide, advance, and promote excellence in clinical care, education, and quality improvement. The candidate must be able to work well with a multi-disciplinary team and be a role model for trainees. All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, must have certification in Paediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications, with subspecialty training in Developmental Paediatrics. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a modified benefits package which includes medical and dental and an academic allowance.
