Effective July 2022, a full-time faculty position for an Academic Clinician (2-year contract) will be available in the Division of Neonatology, Department of Paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Ontario. SickKids is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children, discovery and innovations leading to the improvement in care and outcomes of neonates, infants, and children. SickKids NICU has 42 level 3-4 beds; we admit 800 to 900 outborn, critically ill infants annually, and we are the regional neonatal referral centre for Central East Ontario. We provide quaternary care to newborns with complex illnesses, surgical diagnosis, and neonatal brain injury. SickKids directs the Acute Care Transport Services (ACTS) Team providing transport services for patients from 0-13 years of age. Together with two perinatal centers – Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SBHC), we comprise a collaborative team of 40 neonatologists with expertise in brain recovery and development, lung biology, nutritional research, and education. SickKids, MSH, and SBHC together with St. Michael’s Hospital (level 2 NICU in the GTA) comprise the newly branded Toronto Center for Neonatal Health (TCNH), an affiliate of the University of Toronto. The successful candidate should have a strong background in Paediatrics and expertise in care of high-risk newborns. Additional formal training in Developmental Paediatrics, Neonatal Neurology or early childhood education with a successful research portfolio will be highly considered. This individual must be committed to provide, advance, and promote excellence in clinical care, education, quality improvement, and have scholarly focus that will lead to academic advancement within the School of Medicine. The candidate must be able to work well with a multi-disciplinary team and be a role model for trainees. Candidates with a strong portfolio in clinical research may be eligible for an appointment as Clinical Investigator in the SickKids Research Institute. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($230,000-$260,000) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for health and dental benefits. All candidates must be able to function proficiency in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto have subspecialty training in Neonatology-Perinatal Medicine or be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
