Northern Health is seeking a Family Practitioner with GPA skills (0.75FTE Family Practice and 0.25FTE General Practice Anesthesia) to join the primary care team in the beautiful Bulkley Valley, Smithers. The Family Practitioner will be taking on new patients and there is already a waiting list
of 400 patients. The GP will also participate in vacation/workload share with 3 other GPAs. Thus, this practice is 0.75 Full Time Equivalency (FTE) Family Practice and 0.25FTE GPA – work to be arranged and shared with other GPAs. Please note that the GPA portion (0.25FTE) of this position does not provide ER, but a few available ER shifts, can be provided, if highly preferred.

Bulkley Valley District Hospital is a 24 bed acute care facility providing emergency/outpatient, medical, surgical, maternity and palliative care services, and has one psychiatric observation unit. The facility supports home and community care services, a strong community cancer clinic, and a diverse visiting specialist/surgeon program. It also offers laboratory and radiology (x-ray, mammography, ultrasound), and pediatrics services.

Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town’s Alpine setting. The main industries include forestry, tourism, transportation and agriculture. Smithers offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle. There are golf courses, swimming, curling and skating rinks, fitness, mountain biking and hiking trails. The population of Smithers is approximately 5,400 and home to some of the country’s best skiing. There are three elementary schools, one secondary school and one alternate format school for gr. 9 – 12.
