Effective immediately The Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at The Hospital for Sick Children, Department of Paediatrics, an academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time permanent faculty position as Head, Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology.

The successful applicant will lead a diverse clinical team excelling in clinical and translational research to help us achieve our future vision outlined in our Vision 2023 Department of Paediatrics 5-year Strategic Plan. Dedicated to supporting the growing diversification and spectrum of specialized clinical services, this provides unique opportunities for creative professional activities and innovative translational research. The Division focuses on clinical issues of children’s medications, diagnoses and treatment of adverse affects and toxicities of drugs, overdoes and poisoning, and earl-life exposures to drugs and environmental toxins. Our clinical programs span wise areas ranging from consultation service and clinic, including provincial advisement for the Provincial Poison Centre.

As part of our precision child health vision, our clinical and research interests include an individual-specific approach of pharmacogenetics to identify individuals at an elevated risk of drug toxicity or ineffectiveness. Advancing our research in drug safety for children, drug metabolizing enzymes and their development, drug transporters, mammary glad drug transport and metabolism, and reproductive toxicology and teratology from both a molecular-level pharmacology such as pharmacogenetics but also population-level pharmacology using clinical epidemiology approaches to advance our research combining our expertise in paediatric knowledge and skills with specialized approaches in sciences of drugs and toxins.

The successful applicant will hold a leadership role with accomplished credentials in academic Paediatrics and be responsible for the supervision and development of clinical service, education and research activities for the members of the Division aligned to the academic activities of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($250,000-$400,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance, and a relocation package. The candidate may be eligible for mortgage assistance.

All candidates must be able to function proficiency in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate is expected to: – Be an accomplished academic physician with leadership experience – Be committed to research excellence with an understanding of the research environment – Dedicated to supporting undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate clinical and basic science education – Provide leadership in the recruitment, development and mentoring of diverse faculty; and – Ensure the delivery of quality care in collaboration with all medical subspecialties and hospital clinical programs
