Department Chief – Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, Hospital for Sick Children

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Department Chief.

The effective date of this appointment is January 1, 2018.

Primary Description – Responsibilities include full clinical practice, research, and education, and administrative responsibilities as required by a Department Chief. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. This is a leadership role, reporting directly to the Chief of Perioperative Services.

Additional Description
The successful candidate should be a senior academic with an international reputation who can provide effective and collaborative leadership and vision at the hospital, community, provincial, national and international level. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Salary will be in the range of $200,000 to $674,000 for 40 hours per week, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, The Hospital for Sick Children is a world-renowned, state-of-the-art paediatric health care facility affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital is committed to ongoing learning and development, and features a caring and supportive work environment. SickKids is a paediatric academic health science centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto, dedicated to the care of children.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at The Hospital for Sick Children consist of 17 ophthalmologists, providing comprehensive medical and surgical eye care to pediatric patients. In addition to patient care responsibilities, members of the Department are involved in basic and clinical research, with appointments in The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute. The Department maintains an International Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program with 4-6 fellows each year, and is part of the University of Toronto Ophthalmology residency program.
