The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Division of Cardiology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time Clinical Academic Cardiologist with expertise in cardiotoxicity/cardio-oncology and echocardiography to be based at the Toronto General Hospital, 585 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2N2. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Investigator (CI) and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2025 or as mutually agreed upon.

The successful candidate will have fellowship training in the management of cardiotoxicity including patients receiving cancer therapy. The candidate will have had; 1. At least one year of formal clinical training in cardiotoxicity/cardio-oncology with direct experience in patient care, and 2. At least one year of formal training in echocardiography with experience with transthoracic and trans-esophageal echocardiography. Additional experience in stress echocardiography will be welcomed. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively to deliver high quality care to complex patients, with or at risk for cardiotoxicity at UHN/SHS. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD or equivalent training which will be used to develop and maintain a research platform in cardiotoxicity/cardio-oncology. Ideally, the research focus should be on the application of cardiac imaging strategies with use of AI for disease detection/prognosis and clinical trials in cardiotoxicity/cardio-oncology.

The clinical position involves coverage of the general cardiology in-patient service and outpatient management of patients with, or at risk for cardiotoxicity. A proven record of academic excellence in clinical research are strong pre-requisites. Academic excellence will be measured by the development and execution of clinical outcomes based/trial research, peer-reviewed publications, competitive peer-reviewed research funding, invitations to conferences and speaking engagements, and accolades. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the capacity for independent academic activity in the field of cardiology, and he/she/they is expected to advance the scholarship of cardiotoxicity/cardio-oncology.

The successful candidate will report to the Division Director of Cardiology at UHN/SHS. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The primary language of work will be English. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range for an experienced academic Cardiologist in the Province of Ontario, $242,000 to $310,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per institutional policy. In addition, the selected candidate may be reimbursed partial start-up costs for office expenses.
