Shared Health (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 3R9, and The University of Manitoba, Department of Internal Medicine (business addresses noted below), are inviting applications for a full-time permanent Stroke Neurologist to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba. Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required, and medical research, which job duties encompass 65% of the position.

The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 35% of the position. Job duties are required in English.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Section Head of Neurology, Department Head, Internal Medicine and Provincial Specialty Lead, Internal Medicine and the Chief Medical Officer, Health Sciences Centre, the successful candidate will provide leadership and scholarship in the area of neurological stroke. Duties and responsibilities will include:
• Develop and maintain policies and protocols to ensure best practice standards of patient care.
• Engage effectively with section members, managers, HMOs and allied health and nursing team leaders to promote multidisciplinary collaborations in ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of patient care.
• Advance and promote data collection and analysis to support quality improvement and inform process and policy development.
• Ensure that trainees have ample learning opportunities and that faculty provide appropriate feedback and evaluations in keeping with the requirements of Competency Based Training.
• Develop and lead a multidisciplinary improvement team within the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU).
• Provide and develop reports as required regarding the performance of the ASU that reflect preestablished quality indicators.
• Will be available to address concerns raised by the manager, allied health leaders, HMOs, patients and family.
• Will promote and support research initiatives in Stroke Medicine.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Neurology. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Candidates must possess and provide evidence of strong leadership skills, have experience in the development and maintenance of policies and protocols as they relate to best practice standards of patient care, and have experience in quality improvement, KPI management and data collection.

Compensation:

Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income (approximately $339,000-$400,000/annual). Specialty Physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive. Please contact physicianrecruitment@sharedhealthmb.ca for further information.
