Shared Health, (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 5R9), and the University of Manitoba, Department of Surgery (business addresses noted below), invite applications for a full-time academic Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon to fill our labour shortage in Manitoba commencing on July 1, 2023(or on a date mutually agreed upon). Main job duties include perform surgical procedures treating a wide range of illnesses, prescribing medications and treatment, ordering lab tests and x-rays and other diagnostic procedures, consulting with other physicians as required and medical research which job duties encompass 90% of the position.

The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, and appointed as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 10% of the position. Job duties are required in English.
The candidate must be eager to work in a group setting, showing commitment to working in a collegial and supportive manner with other hepatobiliary surgeons. In addition, the surgical hepatobiliary service has a strong track record of exemplary resident and medical student teaching that we wish to continue. The position does have ample non-clinical time where a commitment to education or research would be a strong asset to the group.

The HPB Service will consist of 3-4 HPB surgeons at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. HPB surgery is supported by interventional radiology, GI medicine, and hepatology. Regular multidisciplinary meetings are held with these groups, and medical and radiation oncology. The group is further supported by surgical oncologists with expertise in colorectal surgery, melanoma, sarcoma, and neuroendocrine tumors.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in General Surgery. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. The clinical position would have its main focus in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Laparoscopic skills would be a strong asset. Endoscopy time is included in our general surgery resources. A broad and capable skillset to manage busy general surgery call at a large tertiary centre is required. Clinical research is an expectation. Additional postgraduate training in education or research would be an asset.

Compensation:

Compensation is a minimum income guarantee ($326,400/annual), derived from fee-for-service income.
