The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Riverview Health Centre are seeking applications for the position of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Riverview Health Centre, to commence on September 1, 2022.

The WRHA is responsible for providing health care to more than 700,000 people living in the City of Winnipeg as well as the surrounding municipalities and Churchill located in northern Manitoba. The WRHA also provides health care support and specialty referral services to Manitobans outside its boundaries as well as residents of Northern Ontario and Nunavut.
Riverview Health Centre is a state of the art 387 bed rehabilitation, palliative and long-term facility providing progressive programming for patients and residents on hospital and long-term care units as well as in outpatient and community programs. Riverview Health Centre has a strong reputation for providing a compassionate, welcoming, and safe home-like environment and for providing Manitobans with access to innovative and high-quality patient-centred health services.

The CMO shall be accountable to the Chief Executive Officer, Riverview Health Centre in the provision of services. The CMO is also considered a resource to the Riverview Health Centre Board of Directors and works collaboratively with the WRHA CMO.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for leadership of strategic medical management activities which contribute to the performance of the organization and promote patient flow, patient safety and quality of care.
• Committed to the integration of acute and community programs and services as well as continually improving the level of patient/client care provided.
• Ensures the highest quality of physician practice through the recruitment and retention of physicians, and provides leadership and assistance in expanding the physician network and building partnerships with other physicians.
• As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, provides advice on all medical and clinical/ community matters to the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Actively supports, promotes, and demonstrates the Riverview Health Centre’s and WRHA’s mission, vision, values as well as Riverview Health Centre strategic and operating priorities.
• Ensures Medical Staff are aware of and comply with the Medical Staff By-laws, Rules, and Regulations of the Hospital as set out by WRHA.
• Actively promotes and monitors quality and safety measures of medical care provided by Medical Staff to patients, residents and clients of Riverview Health Centre.
• Promotes an environment where research is actively pursued and supported.
• Oversees the educational component of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba at Riverview Health Centre.
• Collaborates and partners with Riverview Health Centre, WRHA and Shared Health leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of program and services.
• Collaborates in the recruitment, retention and evaluation of Medical Staff at Riverview Health Centre.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications:

• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba
• Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada
• Eligible for a medical staff appointment with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
• At least five years progressive experience in medical and healthcare administration
• Evidence of leadership ability, creativity, integrity, initiative, fiscal management and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
• Preference will be given to those with Special Competence in Geriatric Medicine or Additional Competence in Care of the Elderly
