Shared Health (1502-155 Carlton Street, Winnipeg MB R3C 3H8) and the Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba (business addresses noted below), is seeking a full-time Neurologist to fill a labour shortage in Manitoba. Main duties of the position include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays and other diagnostic services, consulting with other physicians as required, medical research and teaching (which encompass 90% of the position). Job duties are required in English.

The successful candidate would be eligible for appointment, as a geographical full-time member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompasses 10% of the position. Job duties are required in English. The candidate will also be named to the Heart & Stroke Research Manitoba Chair in Clinical Stroke Research in cooperation with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

The Section of Neurology has substantial resources within the health system, primarily at two academic health centres and one community-based hospital. The 28 faculty members form a section that includes a highly productive and internationally renowned Multiple Sclerosis research group and a strong residency training program. A new 28-bed acute stroke unit is under construction and expected to open in Q1 2022. The successful candidate will have their program of research and clinical practice based in this new state-of-the-art facility. He/she will be part of a stroke-dedicated team including state-of-the-art neuroradiology with an active endovascular thrombectomy program.


The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with specialization in Neurology. The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. The successful candidate should have at least five years’ experience as an independent researcher in stroke neurology and further fellowship training in stroke.

They will have a strong record of publications in high impact journals and peer-reviewed research funding from recognized granting agencies. The applicant will have demonstrated a high capacity to successfully interact and collaborate with other clinical and basic scientists locally and/or abroad.


Compensation is derived from fee-for-service income (salary range $250,000-$400,000/annum) as well as an additional stipend of $55,375.00. Specialty physicians may be eligible for a recruitment incentive.
