The Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) region and the Department of Clinical Health Psychology in the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba invite applications for a Contingent Geographic Full-Time (GFT) Clinical Psychologist (Position #27664), with a flexible start date, ideally beginning May 1, 2020,or shortly after if possible. The position integrates clinical and academic roles (typically 80% clinical; 20% applied research/clinical teaching). The successful applicant will be appointed to the Medical Staff of the PMH region and will be appointed to the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, Max Rady College of Medicine, at the rank commensurate with experience, typically Assistant Professor.
The Psychologist will provide clinical services to older adults with mental health, emotional, and adjustment needs, often occurring in combination with common age-related physical health issues; families/caregivers are also included in the scope of care. Based at the Brandon Regional Health Centre (hospital), the Psychologist will work collaboratively as a member of the team, and will be responsible for providing psychodiagnostic and cognitive assessment and treatment planning, psychological treatment, and consultation to hospital and community teams. These teams include the Centre for Geriatric Psychiatry (22 bed facility within Brandon Regional Health Centre), community-based Seniors’ Mental Health, and the facility-based Mental Health Resource Nurses that serve designated rural hospitals and care homes. The Psychologist will offer clinical leadership through continuing professional education for staff and team members in clinically applicable psychology-relevant areas.
The position is based in Brandon, Manitoba, which is Manitoba’s second largest city (population 46,000; serves an area population of 250,000) and is nestled along the Assiniboine River in the heart of southwestern Manitoba. It is 200 km west of Winnipeg, encompassing mountainous parkland, wide prairies and an urban trading centre; Brandon’s airport is serviced by WestJet. As a member of the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, Max Rady College of Medicine, the Psychologist joins a large department of clinical colleagues who form a provincial network of consultation and mentorship across urban and rural settings. Position Responsibilities:

• Clinical psychology services to seniors, including patients in hospital, personal care homes and community settings. The direct care psychology services encompass psychodiagnostic and cognitive assessment, individual and group-delivered interventions, as well as opportunity for development of clinical programming.
• Consultation with interdisciplinary staff regarding behavior management, case conceptualization and treatment planning and implementation
• Facilitates continuing professional education of health professionals in facilities and in the community, and clinical teaching of students in the health professions, with opportunity for training of CHP Department clinical psychology residents.
• Applied clinical research and program evaluation.

• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited clinical psychology training program, and completion of a CPA or APA accredited internship/residency. • Eligible for registration* or member in good standing as a Psychologist (CPsych) with the Psychological Association of Manitoba • Education, training and experience in diagnostic evaluation, and administration and interpretation of standard adult psychodiagnostic and cognitive psychological tests and measures. • Education, training, and experience in evidence-based psychological interventions and individual & group treatment delivery for common mental health conditions; • Education, training and experience in geropsychology, including dementia and other age-related conditions would be an asset • Experience providing consultation to interdisciplinary teams including to other mental health professionals • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, oral and written communication skills, and inter-professional teamwork skills. • Training, experience and/or research background/interests in Indigenous health would be an asset. • Satisfactory results of pre-employment criminal records, child and adult abuse registry, and vulnerable persons checks.

The GFT agreement provides for on-site private practice opportunities. *The Department of Clinical Health Psychology will provide the required clinical supervision for individuals at the C Psych Candidate level to become registered for independent practice as a Psychologist (C Psych), and provides consultation thereafter.
