Focused on patient and family-centered care, Horizon Health Network operates 12 hospitals and more than 100 medical facilities, clinics and offices throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia, providing medical services ranging from acute care to community-based health services.
Horizon invites applications for a full-time family physician. This position will be located at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, 130 Bayard Drive, Saint John, New Brunswick, commencing early 2021 (exact date TBD).
This is an opportunity to join an established Department of Geriatric Medicine which consists of 14 full-time and part-time geriatricians and family doctors. This department is part of the Horizon Health Network which offers 23 areas of specialty medicine and surgery. Horizon Health Network is also supported by a vast array of research, education, health promotion activities and community partnerships. Dalhousie New Brunswick Medical Education Program is located adjacent to the Saint John Regional Hospital at the University of New Brunswick, Saint John.

 Hours of work are normally provided between 0830hrs – 1630hrs Monday to Friday, unless otherwise agreed upon by the Service/Department Head.
 After-hours and weekend call coverage in coordination with members of the Department.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will be expected to provide daily medical care to 21 inpatients split between Restorative Care Unit for geriatric medicine rehabilitation and Transitional Care Unit for patients awaiting services or a long-term care facility before discharge from St. Joseph’s Hospital. The Restorative Care Unit provides multidisciplinary therapy to elderly, frail patients who have multiple chronic conditions and who are recovering from acute illness. The successful applicant will be appointed to the Department of Geriatric Medicine, must participate in afterhours and weekend call coverage of all inpatient units in St. Joseph’s Hospital and two Veteran’s long-term care units in Ridgewood Veterans Wing (RVW), be the Medical Director of RVW, and participate in departmental and program committees and in medical quality improvement. Participation in teaching of medical students and residents is required, and collaborative or individual research is encouraged.

Remuneration
This is a Salaried position, remuneration is based on the New Brunswick Medical Pay Plan. The current rates range between $170,378 to a maximum of $199,680 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience. On call remuneration is Fee-For-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare New Brunswick.

Qualification Requirements
Education
A medical degree is required.
Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
Certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP, FCFP) is preferred, other equivalent qualifications will be considered.
Certification in Clinical Care of the Elderly is preferred.
Proficiency in English is required. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
Good attendance and work record.
Physically able to perform assigned duties.
In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada.

Additionally, St. Joseph’s Hospital is home to a thriving ambulatory Surgical Centre, a comprehensive Breast Health Program, women’s health services, various medical and surgical clinics, diagnostic/ therapeutic services, an Urgent Care Centre and the New Brunswick Eye and Tissue Bank.
