The Departments of Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital and University of Toronto are seeking a qualified full-time academic neurologist with expertise in the management of stroke. The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Teacher or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI). The expected start date of the position is September 1, 2019, but several months’ flexibility is available.

This position will support patient demands in a busy regional stroke centre and lead in ongoing quality improvement efforts, in addition to supporting the general neurology program at St. Michael’s Hospital.

The successful candidate will hold an MD degree, should have, or be eligible for, certification in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and will have, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have advanced training in stroke. In addition, with a clinician teacher job description, the successful candidate will participate fully in the educational programs in neurology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and collaborate in clinical research and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate should be an effective teacher with demonstrated achievement in teaching and education. Teaching accomplishments include the presence of a strong track record of interests and excellence in resident and fellow education, formal training in teaching methodology, leadership as a clinical educator and other relevant experience. Advanced training in quality and evidence of scholarship is the minimum requirement for the CQI job description. Academic excellence in research will also be considered. Research accomplishments include peer-reviewed publications, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades.

The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Neurology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division currently consists of 13 full time neurologists and has a robust multiple sclerosis research program as well as expertise in stroke and movement disorders.

Compensation will depend upon the amount of clinical work performed but will be in the usual range for an experienced Neurologist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $400,000 per year (and based, in part, on fee-for-service billings). The language of work is English.
