The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is seeking a Family Physician to work at the Petitcodiac Health Center (Petitcodiac, NB), 30 minutes from the city of Moncton, mid-way between Moncton and Sussex.

The practice has approximately 1400 patients with a cross section of age groups from newborns to geriatrics.

The clinic hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Nursing and clerical support are provided by Horizon Health Network, part of the Health Care Network of the New Brunswick Government. The physician is responsible for their patients admitted to The Moncton Hospital, a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility with full specialist services available for consultation. On-call coverage is required ans is coordinated in an eight physician on-call group. There is opportunity to teach with the Family Medicine Residency Training Program.

Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

JOB DUTIES:
A typical weekly schedule will include:

- Office hours Monday to Friday at the Petitcodiac Health Centre – See a minimum of 20 patients daily (by year two for new graduates) – Inpatient hospital care – On-call coverage coordinated with an 8 family physician call group

ON CALL:
Presently, the eight person on-call group is using the Hospitalist Model where each of seven physicians take one week out of seven to work in The Moncton Hospital caring for the group’s inpatients and taking calls at night concerning those patients.

Remuneration
Remuneration
Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a salaried model may be available. Locums receive 10% in lieu of benefits.

On call remuneration is fee for service and in addition to the amount listed above.
These rates are based on New Brunswick’s Medicare Medical Pay Plan and are subject to changes based on policy updates.

Qualification Requirements
Education
The Department of Family Medicine requires that its members have one or more of the following qualifications: Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP), American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or Le collège des médecins du Québec (médecine familiale).

At the discretion of the Clinical Department Head, a physician who is eligible to sit the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) certification examination may be granted associate medical staff privileges until the next examination sitting. This status may be renewed for up to three (3) consecutive attempts on the full certification exam. After three (3) failed attempts or if the physician's eligibility to sit the examination expires, their privileges will be terminated.

In special circumstances, foreign graduates who qualify for full licensure in the Province of New Brunswick may be considered.

Horizon Health Network is located in New Brunswick and is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest health authority with expertise in diverse areas of health and community services. The Clinic is a facility of Horizon Health Network, www.horizonnb.ca. It can house three family physicians with two exam rooms and one office for each physician. There are presently two other family physicians in private practice at the Health Centre who see patients by appointment. The practice opportunity is to replace a third physician who has retired.

At least one nurse and one secretary are always on sight during hours of operation (two nurses, four clerical staff during peak hours). Other health care services available on a monthly basis at the health centre include a dietician, respiratory therapist and a diabetes nurse education. Phlebotomy is available on sight daily.

There is a fully equipped procedure room for minor surgical procedures, a conference room equipped for teleconferencing and a staff kitchen.
