Associate / Full Professor – Academic Hepatologist
Longo Family Chair in Liver Cancer Research

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the University Health Network and Sinai Health System is seeking to recruit an Academic Hepatologist for The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease, University Health Network. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with the position description of clinician investigator or clinician scientist at the University of Toronto. This position is for a 5-year term, renewable following a successful review, and supported by the Longo Family Chair in Liver Cancer Research. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications or equivalent, be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in gastroenterology and have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. In addition, they will have completed an MSc, PhD or equivalent training in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in the field of hepatology and a particular interest in liver tumors. Within University Heath Network, liver cancer is managed via a multidisciplinary approach by hepatology, surgery, interventional radiology, radiotherapy and oncology among others. They will work alongside a vibrant research and clinical team and will contribute in all aspects to perpetuate the vision to provide excellence in patient care, research and teaching. The successful applicant should also have the vision and organizational skills necessary to further grow the Liver Cancer Research Program. The candidate will be appointed as clinician scientist or clinician investigator, focus on hepatoma-related clinical care and research such that 50-80% of their time will be allocated to research. Scholarly excellence will be assessed by the presence of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades, and other related accomplishments.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the University Health Network and Sinai Health System in Toronto is a group of 28 gastroenterologists and hepatologists. The Division has active clinical and research programs in many areas of gastroenterology and hepatology including liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, pancreatic physiology and motility. Within hepatology, we have extensive clinical and scientific experience in viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, fatty liver, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease is based within the University Health Network at the Toronto General Hospital and is one of the largest Hepatology Units in North America, consisting of 17 full time hepatologists and 2 clinical associates.

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. For the successful candidate compensation will be highly competitive and within the income range for a senior academic hepatologist in North America.
