Associate or Full Professor – Director, Division of Occupational Medicine, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Division of Occupational Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review. The effective start date of this appointment is December 1, 2018 or shortly thereafter.

An aspirational leader is sought to advance the academic enterprise of the Division of Occupational Medicine over the next five years. The ideal candidate will be an internationally respected scholar and visionary leader with excellent interpersonal skills. They will meaningfully engage the academic leadership of the University and the affiliated teaching hospitals to build strong cross-department and cross-discipline collaboration, bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. The Director reports directly to the Chair of Medicine.

In addition to the above, the incumbent will have specific leadership responsibility as Division Head for Occupational Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH). SMH is the designated site for the Director’s clinical activities and they will be a member of the SMH Department of Medicine, reporting to the Physician-in-Chief.

It is the mission of the Division of Occupational Medicine to meet the needs of individuals and populations with respect to their work and health and to meet the future challenges of a changing world of work by training leaders in the field and conducting research and knowledge dissemination. The Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program is one of three accredited programs in Canada and combines clinical rotations with rotations in government and industry and didactic training. The Division has an active research program focused on occupational disease coupled with a specialized clinic that serves as the Provincial referral centre for occupational disease.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in Occupational Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure in Ontario. Estimated total remuneration from all sources will be in the range of $250,000-$350,000 and commensurate with qualifications, experience and clinical work. This will be made up of made up of a fee-for-service component as well as additional support from foundation funds, academic base support, a stipend and additional alternate funding plan (AFP) distribution. A benefits program financed through physician overage is also available. Benefits of the position also include access to the University of Toronto Libraries and certain educational subsidies for dependents.
