Health PEI is seeking two full-time permanent Pediatricians to join the Pediatrics Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. One position is available in September 2020; and the second position is available in April 2021. If a candidate is interested in a 0.8 full-time equivalent (FTE) part-time position, this may be an option. The Pediatric outpatient clinic is located within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Pediatrics Department includes 6 pediatricians and 1 neonatologist. There is a 12-bed inpatient pediatric unit and a 12-bed Level 2+ NICU.

Pediatricians at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are responsible to:

- Provide general pediatric consultations and follow-up care for referrals from physicians and nurse practitioners from across PEI; – Take part in the Pediatrics on-call schedule, providing general pediatric consultations for the hospital and ER, as well as neonatal resuscitation and NICU coverage after hours; – Participate in clinical teaching of medical students and residents in Family Practice and Pediatrics; and – Share care of pediatric oncology patients with our regional tertiary care center.
The successful candidates will work in the Island’s capital city of Charlottetown, PEI.

Health PEI, a crown corporation, is responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island. Health PEI’s head office is located at 16 Garfield Street, Charlottetown, PEI.


Two (2) positions – one position beginning in September 2020; and the second position beginning in April 2021.


Physicians have the option of choosing a salary, contract-for-service, or fee-for-service payment modality. Information related to payment modalities, including salary; hourly contract-for-service rate; fee-for-service tariff of fees; blended payments (shadow billings); on-call payments; and benefits including paid vacation entitlements, CME funding, RRSP program, and more can be found in the Master Agreement.

Hours of Work:

• Full-time hours and on-call coverage as required


• Administrative support included, as per Master Agreement;
• Eligible moving expense reimbursement up to $10,000 is available;
• Clinical teaching with the PEI Residency Training Program; faculty appointment at Dalhousie University may be available;
• Electronic patient record system (hospital based) with access to lab and x-ray reports from office; and
• Other incentives as per the Master Agreement.

Certifications and Other Requirements:

FRCPC or eligibility for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification;
• Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island; and
• Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging.
