The Department of Surgery, Division of General and Thoracic Surgery at Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Surgeon Scientist, General Surgery. This is a permanent, full-time position. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2015.

Description – Evidence of excellence in research and an advanced University degree is required. The candidate must have a strong academic/research background, and is expected to complement the Division’s academic and research productivity. The candidate is expected to boost one of the three new programs of the Division which include regenerative medicine/stem cells, necrotizing enterocolitis or transitional care into adulthood. Evidence of excellence in research is required. Responsibilities include clinical General Surgery practice, research, education, and administrative responsibilities as required by a Staff Surgeon.

The successful candidate should be an academic with an international reputation who can provide effective and collaborative leadership at the hospital, provincial, national and international level. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto and Scientist track / Scientist at the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children. In addition, he/she will be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The appointment will be at 75% research and 25% clinical practice.

The Division of General Surgery is comprised of 8 surgeons, and provides medical and surgical care of neonates and children with acquired or congenital malformations, solid thoracic and abdominal tumors, thoracic/gastrointestinal diseases and trauma.
