Assistant Professor – Clinician Investigator – Rare Diseases Program and
Comprehensive Integrated Pain Program (CIPP)

The University of Toronto, Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and University Health Network, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (university-affiliated hospital) are seeking a full-time academic physiatrist with a strong interest in research and clinical practice in the areas of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and comprehensive chronic pain assessment and management. The candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must qualify for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment at Department of Medicine, University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expected start date of the position is November 1st, 2018, or shortly thereafter.

The incumbent must possess excellent diagnostic skills and should have pertinent knowledge of treatment paradigms, including pharmacological and US/fluoroscopic guided pain procedures. They must hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, both certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have advanced fellowship training in chronic pain management and the ability to provide leadership in these areas, as well as work collaboratively in an integrated, inter-professional care environment within the department and health system.

The position will have a significant research focus, with special emphasis on generation of new research directions and possibilities of outcome-based pain research in accordance with Department of Medicine’s requirement of Clinician Investigators. As such, the candidate must have past experience and research interest in management of rare chronic pain conditions including EDS as well as research publications in the areas of pain and interventional care. A graduate degree in health care research will be considered an asset. The position will include the supervision of medical students, residents and fellows, as well as other advanced health clinicians such as nurse practitioners or physical therapist practitioners. Therefore, the candidate will have a successful record of clinical teaching and service excellence. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to team building and an overall aptitude for leadership, educational development and research.
