Community Description
The Prairie Mountain Health region covers an area of 66,201 square kilometers on the southwestern side of the Province of Manitoba. It includes 115 towns and communities including the city of Brandon, 14 First Nations communities, and four French language communities.
Recently ranked #6 in MoneySense 'Canada's Best Places to Live 2012', Brandon is a thriving city with a population of over 48,000, located 200 kms west of Winnipeg on the Trans Canada Highway. It is large enough to supply all the retail, medical, educational and cultural needs on a daily basis and small enough to avoid high costs of living and lengthy commutes. Branson is currently serviced by West Jet Airlines. Brandon University has a significant reputation in music, general arts and science programs. Riding Mountain National Park is one hour north of the city, and the Peace Gardens are situated on the Manitoba/North Dakota border just over an hour to the south. There are numerous other recreational areas in western Manitoba. Dubbed 'the Host City', Brandon's enthusiastic volunteer base land many provincial, national and international events. The 'Wheat City' is an excellent community in which to raise children or retire.
